Meet Kenneth & Helen Felumlee. Their love story is like all the Hollywood romantic movies rolled into one. You see, Kenneth & Helen were married for SEVENTY years. Yes, 70 years. They got married at 22, and have been inseparable up until the time of their passing last week. Their daughter, Linda Cody, said “we knew when one went, the other was going to go.” “We wanted them to go together, and they did.”
Their love story, as reported in USA Today is a heart wrenching story about love, perseverance, and unwavering support for each other. They met when they were only 18 and 19 years old, and eloped after dating for 3 years. They got married at the courthouse with only $5 in their pocket on February 20th, 1944. They soon started a family and had 8 children in their time together. Kenneth worked as a car inspector for B&O/Chessie Systems Railroad and Helen stayed home to care for the family and their 8 children. When Kenneth retired in 1983, they developed a love for travel and visited almost all 50 states by bus.
Kenneth & Helen remained deeply in love until the very end. About 15 hours after Helen died, Kenneth passed away as well, surrounded by his children, family, and closest friends. Perhaps his daughter said it the best.
“It was a wonderful going away party, he was ready. He just didn’t want to leave her here by herself.”
Thank you Kenneth & Helen for reminding us what true love is all about. We here at Wedding Bros is glad you are finally together again, and your love story continues to inspire each one of us.
